Life Experience

I have experience in multiple areas including healthcare, business and as an author

Early life

I’m Jim Cannon, and I’m running for New York State Assembly in District 120. My life began in the Adirondacks, raised in a working-class family that knew hardship but never gave up. I lost my father before my first birthday and my mother just before I graduated high school. I worked from the age of 14, paid my own way, and learned early what resilience truly means.

Military Service

I served our country in the U.S. Army for 12 years, rising from Private First Class to Captain. My service took me across the nation, overseas with NATO forces, and to South America. This is where I learned leadership, responsibility, and the value of working with people from every background.

Healthcare

After a medical discharge, I dedicated my civilian career to caring for others, first as a Hospital Social Worker and for the last 30 + years as an RN. I worked in mental health, corrections, long term care, case management, and co-owned a healthcare consulting business with my wife Debbie, also an RN. Every step of the way, I saw how policy affects real people — families, workers, seniors, and veterans.

Purpose

I’m running because our district deserves a representative who understands struggle, service, and hard work. Someone who has lived the challenges facing everyday New Yorkers — and who will fight to make government work for them. Someone that can work with the Majority to get things done for us. I live in Fulton with my wife Debbie and our three very spoiled Lhasa Apsos. I’ve always lived by five simple words: “I will do my best”, and that’s exactly what I’ll do for the people of NY Assembly District 120. Let’s Talk!

After Jim retired he wrote a book on an Alternate World War II in the Pacific. It is available on Amazon - Triangulation Pacific - An Alternate History of WW II in the Pacific

Hope to see you there!
